A Philadelphia high school is in the top ten of the latest U.S. News and World Report “Best High Schools” ranking, writes Joe Brandt for CBS News Philadelphia.
Julia R. Masterman Laboratory and Demonstration School ranked No. 8 overall on the national list.
The magnet school on Spring Garden Street is known for its highly selective admissions process and is often a top performer within this annual list.
Last year, Masterman finished No. 4 on the list.
Meanwhile, another Philadelphia school finished in the top 500 with Central High School ranking at No. 208.
To compile the annual rankings, U.S. News uses a number of metrics, such as graduation rates, students’ performance on state assessments, as well as AP and IB exams.
Masterman and Central are two of 11 Pennsylvania high schools to appear on this year’s ranking.
