Co-founders Kevin and Basil Kershner are aiming for a May opening of their latest establishment called The Barrel by Brothers Kershner.

The taproom will occupy a two-story, historic stone bank building dating back to the 1750s. It will have 12 beers on tap and a cocktail program, alongside ciders and wines.

The brothers opened their 15-barrel brewery and flagship taproom in Montgomery County in 2018. A few years later, they launched their seasonal Brothers on the Brandywine Beer Garden in Coatesville. This year, the garden will return on April 6, with a special St. Patrick’s Day pop-up event on March 15 and 16.

For the owners, who are Downingtown natives, the new taproom represents a sort of homecoming and a goal they’ve been working toward since they first opened their brewery. Their original plan was to open a brick-and-mortar location, followed by an expansion into the county with a beer garden.

“And now this is part three, another leg to our journey, bringing it closer to our people,” said Kevin Kershner
