Devan Kaney, who grew up in Radnor, was a shy teen when she was chosen at age 15 as a Philadelphia Eagles “fan of the game.”
The role required her to wave into the camera on the field at Lincoln Financial, as her image appeared on the end zone video boards.
It was an awkward moment, but she also knew it was something she really wanted.
Kaney grew up quietly watching the Eagles when Andy Reid was their coach and when Donovan McNabb and Brian Dawkins were around to lose three NFC Championship Games before getting to the Super Bowl in 2004.
“So I’m really proud of who I’ve grown into, and to be able to look back on that and reflect on the little awkward teenager that felt so uncomfortable waving at fans is now on the sidelines, covering the team. It was a really cool and empowering moment for me,” Kaney said.
Kaney replaces longtime WIP sports talk celebrity Howard Eskin as the new sideline reporter for the station, writes Jeff Blumenthal for Philadelphia Business Journal.
She had been a sideline reporter with Eskin during WIP’s annual local high school Turkey Bowl coverage.
