Taryn Hatcher has worked as a TV reporter for NBC Sports Philadelphia for the past six years and is developing a reputation as one of the worst-kept secrets in sports broadcasting thanks to her growing popularity, writes Tom Sheen for The U.S. Sun.
This is thanks to her brilliant coverage of the Eagles, 76ers, Phillies, and Flyers over the years.
Hatcher is a native of Delran, New Jersey, just over the Delaware River from downtown Philadelphia. Her father was a huge Philadelphia sports fan and played college basketball.
She played soccer through high school until a serious knee injury ended her hopes of getting a scholarship, calling the circumstance a “blessing in disguise.”
Hatcher watched a ton of sports together with her father growing up.
“One night when I was little he pointed out to me that you could get paid to watch and talk about sports on TV,” Hatcher said. “It was a done deal. I never really entertained the idea of pursuing another career after that.”
From there, Hatcher eventually enrolled at Rutgers, where she graduated early with a journalism/political science double major.
She began her career in Honolulu, and worked there for three years before coming back home to Philadelphia, where she previously interned.
Hatcher has since been gaining national attention.
