Restaurateurs Philip and Kate Ferro, the owners of Chadds Ford Tavern, are busy working on a new eatery they plan to open in a 210-year-old inn in Middletown, Delaware, writes Emma Dooling for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The Augustine Tavern is expected to open its doors in mid-October. It will be located in the building that was once home to the Augustine Inn Seafood & Chop House, which was operated for a short period by the Ferros in 2019 with the then-owner of the property before they exited the business.
The couple bought the property last month for $586,000. The three-story inn was built around 1814. It originally served as the Augustine Beach Hotel.
The new restaurant will serve the same food as at other tavern-branded eateries operated by the Five Star Restaurant Group owned by the Ferros, including the Chadds Ford location.
Philip Ferro said the pair are happy to be returning to Middletown.
“We’re very close to Delaware, so a lot of people come to Chadds Ford [Tavern] that would go to Augustine when we had it,” he said.
