Philadelphia’s First Hawaiian Restaurant Will Transport You To the Aloha State

Mahalo Hawaiian BBQ is Philadelphia's first Hawaiian restaurant and features a wide range of delicious food and dishes.

Mahalo Hawaiian BBQ, Philadelphia’s first Hawaiian restaurant, will make you feel like you are in the Aloha State, reports Bob Kelly for FOX 29.

The new spot is located at 250 South Street.

The owner, Ivy Cheng, has been living with her family in the South Philadelphia neighborhood for eight years.

“We love this community,” she said.

Her husband, Jayson, is the chef at Mahalo, and had a special opportunity to learn all about Hawaiian cuisine.

The atmosphere at the restaurant is casual and comfortable, which goes in line with the Hawaiian culture.

Highlights on the menu include Musubi (grilled spam with rice and wrapped in seaweed), Hawaiian BBQ Chicken (marinated in a house barbecue sauce), Garlic Shrimp (prawns sauteed with rich garlic, green onions, and butter), and Loco Moco (homemade hamburger patties over rice topped with brown gravy and eggs).

In addition to these delicious dishes, the eatery also offers a variety of Hawaiian tropical fruit drinks which go perfectly with a Hawaiian barbecue.
