Stradley Ronon, a law firm that is headquartered in Philadelphia, has opened its first West Coast office in Los Angeles.

Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young is set to open a new office in Los Angeles with the addition of a 10-lawyer group, marking its first West Coast office, writes Jeff Blumenthal for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The new lawyer group comes from litigation boutique, Keesal Young & Logan, including five partners and five associates focused on financial services, securities litigation, employment and commercial litigation.

The move represents a continued push for the law firm to expand westward.

The firm opened its first office outside the Mid-Atlantic in Chicago in March 2016. While it had an office in San Mateo, California, for a short-term project in 2000, it never had a West Coast presence otherwise.

According to Stradley Ronon Managing Partner Michael O’Mara, the firm wasn’t necessarily looking to enter Southern California or the West Coast, but it presented the right opportunity.

“Through a geographic lens, we’re thought of as a Northeast firm with the Philadelphia headquarters,” O’Mara said. “But we’ve been national for many years. And this was an opportunity to plant a flag there and more deliberately, consciously and strategically grow out a physical presence in California.”

Stradley Ronon now has 217 lawyers spread over nine offices.
