In an era where healthcare excellence is crucial, Roxborough Memorial Hospital has emerged as a leader, recently being named the 2026 recipient of The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) Achievement Award in the Optimal Operations category. This prestigious honor, selected from 125 entries, acknowledges the hospital’s success in expanding access to high-value, post-acute care and its commitment to excellence through its Inpatient Rehabilitation program.
Vision
Roxborough’s Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit is dedicated to facilitating rapid yet effective patient recovery. Its primary goal is to transition patients back home swiftly, achieving optimal recovery outcomes.
Facilities and Services
The Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit features four private rooms and two semi-private rooms, all situated on the fourth floor of the hospital. Patients receive intensive therapy — physical, occupational, and speech — at a minimum of three hours per day, five days a week. This rigorous schedule offers the highest level of post-acute care rehabilitation available.
Therapies focus on improving strength, coordination, balance, and endurance, while also enhancing cognitive abilities, language skills, and socialization. Weekly assessments by an interdisciplinary team ensure that personalized treatment plans are continually optimized.
Comprehensive Care
The program is designed for individuals needing comprehensive rehabilitation in a modern, tranquil hospital environment. With physician care available 24/7 and a rehabilitation physician meeting patients at least three times a week, the program ensures high-quality, continuous care. This commitment is vital for patients recovering from conditions like:
- Amputation
- Brain injury
- Neurological conditions
- Orthopedic injury
- Spinal cord injury
- Stroke
- Other medically complex conditions
Acute Rehab vs. Skilled Nursing Facilities
Understanding the distinction between acute rehab and skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) is crucial for patients and families. Acute rehab at Roxborough is intensive, with a focus on rapid recovery through structured therapy, leading to shorter stays averaging 16 days. In contrast, SNFs offer less intensive therapy, typically one to two hours daily, and longer stays averaging 28 days, suitable for gradual recovery.
Choosing the right setting depends on the severity of the condition, recovery goals, and the desired speed of returning to daily life. Roxborough’s acute rehab is ideal for those seeking a fast-tracked, intensive rehabilitation process.
Experience and Commitment
Deciding on an acute rehabilitation center is a pivotal choice impacting recovery. Roxborough Memorial Hospital invites potential patients to visit, meet the staff, and explore its state-of-the-art facilities. This personal approach ensures that patients and families feel confident in their choice of care.
The hospital’s commitment extends beyond medical expertise. Patients receive daily physician oversight, 24-hour nursing care, and a team of dedicated therapists. Each therapy program is customized to the individual’s abilities, therapy tolerance, and desired outcomes, ensuring compassionate care and respect throughout the recovery journey.
