French food giant Bonduelle Americas has chosen to plant roots in Philadelphia, betting that the city has what it takes to fuel its American ambitions in the booming plant-based food market, writes Paul Schwedelson for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
Philadelphia was ultimately chosen as the destination for its new growth hub after evaluating more than 20 cities.
Why Philadelphia? Company leaders cited the city’s deep talent pipeline, its prime East Coast positioning, and growing reputation as a magnet for food and life sciences companies.
“This is the city that epitomizes what we’re trying to do in a culture change and a building of a company and building on a 170-year heritage,” said Bonduelle Americas CEO Bobby Chacko. “The rallying cry within our business is, ‘Listen, go big or go home.’ There’s no city better to do that in than in Philadelphia.”
The $2 billion company — known for its salad bowls and bags — has signed a lease at 2400 Market Street, which will become Bonduelle Americas’ new office to support its increased marketing and online approach.
More than 100 jobs are expected to follow over the next year and a half.
