She Starts Every Morning Caring for Her Mom. Then She Goes Off to Run Philly’s Most Ambitious Restaurant Group

Ellen Yin, founder of High Street Hospitality Group, is one of the busiest women in Philadelphia’s food industry.

As founder of the High Street Hospitality Group, Ellen Yin is one of the busiest women in Philadelphia’s food industry, writes Chloé Pantazi-Wolber for Philadelphia Magazine.

The James Beard Award-winning restaurateur maintains a schedule filled with meetings, business dinners, and networking events that frequently run late into the evening. This is unsurprising, as she manages several of Philadelphia’s top culinary destinations, including Fork, High Street, a.kitchen+bar, and the newly opened Bread Room.

Even with her demanding schedule, she works to help other women succeed in the city’s hospitality sector through her role as co-chair of the Sisterly Love Collective.

Yin begins her day by assisting her mother, a stroke survivor and the inspiration for a lot of her recipes, before heading to work. Her daily schedule is often regulated by the timing of various meetings, yet she always makes space to visit a few of her restaurants which allows her to connect with the staff.

“Every day is different and it’s hard to encapsulate one day, but I feel so fortunate that I get to spend my day doing what I really love,” Yin said.

Her days often consist of a combination of meetings and events, eating bread, and sometimes requiring travel outside Philadelphia.

When her day ends, she enjoys relaxing with some TV whenever time allows.
