Comcast Promotes Mike Cavanagh to Co-CEO With Brian Roberts

Comcast has announced that Mike Cavanagh, currently president of the company, will be promoted to co-CEO alongside CEO Brian Roberts, effective in January 2026.

For the first time since becoming CEO of Comcast in 2002, Brian Roberts will be sharing his executive leadership role, writes Ryan Mulligan for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The tech and media conglomerate has announced that Mike Cavanagh will be promoted as Comcast’s new co-CEO starting in January 2026.

Cavanagh currently serves as president of Comcast, a title he has held since 2022 when he was promoted from his CFO role.

Since becoming president, his influence and voice at the company has grown exponentially, making his impending promotion to co-CEO a natural progression.

Fellow co-CEO Roberts will continue his role as Comcast’s chairman, while Cavanagh will be added to the board of directors.

In being named co-CEO, Cavanagh will become the first person outside of the Roberts family to be the company’s top executive. Comcast was founded in 1963 by Roberts’ father Ralph J. Roberts.

Cavanagh has been with Comcast since 2015.

In a statement, Roberts called Cavanagh “the ideal person to help lead Comcast as we manage the pivot we are making to drive growth across the company.”

Comcast is currently grappling with cord-cutting within its cable unit, recently spinning off its cable networks to create a separate company, and restructuring its business unit.
