Brad Ingelsby’s success with “Mare of Easttown” actually coaxed him to leave Los Angeles and return to his hometown of Berwyn, writes Rosa Catagena for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
He now lives about a mile from his parents’ home with his wife, Lindsey Ingelsby, an Aston native, and their three children.
“Mare” proved he could find success with a film shot locally that tells a Delaware County story.
“There is value in shooting something where it’s set — it will bring something to the production, to the characters, to the emotion that you just can’t emulate somewhere else,” Ingelsby said.
“Task” on HBO continues to spotlight Delaware County. The crime thriller stars Mark Ruffalo, whose character, Tom Brandis, does not sport a Delco accent, but other characters do.
“We weren’t trying to separate ‘Task’ from ‘Mare’. In fact, we were actually going the other way and saying, ‘No, it’s OK to use the same streets,’” said Ingelsby. “If there’s something architecturally that can connect the two worlds, let’s wrap our arms around it.”
Ingelsby said he’s eager to continue featuring his hometown region in future projects and hopes local audiences feel as represented by “Task” as they did with “Mare.”
