Task (and Delco) Will Be Coming Back for a Second Season, HBO Says

Tom Brandis (Mark Ruffalo) hugs his family after his son Ethan (Andrew Russel)'s parole hearing in the "Task" finale.

There will be new faces, but the Delco-centric crime thriller “Task” will return for a second season, HBO announced Thursday.

The first season, starring Mark Ruffalo, followed an FBI task force investigating drug house robberies.

“Task” was one of HBO’s “top three fastest-growing debut seasons,” according to the subscription television service.

“We knew well in advance of its launch that we had a powerful drama series on our hands, but it has been so rewarding to witness the audience’s fervor and embrace of this show as it grew week after week,” said HBO Programming’s executive vice president Francesca Orsi.

“Task” was created by Berwyn native, Archbishop Carroll and Villanova graduate Brad Ingelsby, who also brought “Mare of Easttown” to viewers.

Both shows were filmed in and featured several parts of Delaware and Chester counties, as well as Philadelphia.

Ingelsby is dedicated to making shows about Delco that are actually filmed here. That trend will continue in Season 2.

“Task,” like “Mare of Easttown,” was laced with Delco and South Philly accents thanks to “Mare” dialect coach Susanne Sulby. Several references to local icons were also included, from Rita’s to Wawa.
