Dr. Ala Stanford, who made national headlines for her work during the onset of the COVID-19, has announced her campaign bid for Pennsylvania’s 3rd congressional district seat, writes Cherise Lynch for NBC10 Philadelphia.
She announced her run for Congress at a press conference in her Germantown hometown, announcing why she decided to run.
“As a doctor and a community leader in Philadelphia, I go to work every day to serve our most vulnerable neighbors and families, but we’re up against a system that simply doesn’t work for working families and people in need … when I see a problem in our city, I take action to fix it,” said Dr. Stanford.
She added that the people she serves everyday deserves more than the status quo. This includes safe streets, affordable housing, livable wage jobs, good schools, and quality health care.
Stanford, founder of both the Black Doctors COVID-19 Consortium and Center for Health Equity, is a practicing physician with more than two decades of experience and is twice board-certified by the American Board of Surgery.
Stanford is the latest to join the increasingly crowded race for the seat that will be vacated when six-term Congressman U.S. Representative Dwight Evans retires in 2026.
