Aunt Orphia’s in Philadelphia, Known For Its Pound Cakes, Earns 2025 Family-Owned Business Award

Founded in 2006, Aunt Orphia’s Delicious Homemade Pound Cake is run by Orphialasertrella Adams-Taylor and her daughters, Tiv and Kiki.

Aunt Orphia’s Delicious Homemade Pound Cake Co., is one of three Philadelphia companies to earn a 2025 Family-Owned Business Award, writes Lindsey Nolen for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

One day, Orphialasertrella Adams-Taylor purchased a pound cake from a food truck outside a local college campus.

Upon realizing that it wasn’t a great pound cake, she started to get memories of her late mother, Orphia Davis-Adams, who had a secret pound cake recipe.

Despite never actually sharing the recipe, Adams-Taylor had it memorized as a teenager.

After her mother passed away in 2003, she felt an obligation to carry on her mother’s legacy.

From there, Adams-Taylor brought a vendor a better pound cake to buy, which he did.

This became the basis for the eventual launch of Aunt Orphia’s Delicious Homemade Pound Cake in 2006.

Adams-Taylor runs the business with her daughters, Tiv and Kiki.

The business sells and ships whole cakes nationwide, while cake slices are also available in local stores and supermarkets.

“We’re still doing it the old-fashioned way,” Adams-Taylor said. “We make it like I was taught.”

Each slice is made without preservatives, has real butter, and maintains a two-week shelf life.
