The Legacy of Flourtown’s Philadelphia Cricket Club Prepares for National Spotlight

The 2025 Truist Championship brings PGA action to Montco's historic Cricket Club, restored by Philly-native Keith Foster.

Flourtown’s own Philadelphia Cricket Club is preparing for a rare moment in the national spotlight, writes Marcus Hayes for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Set to host the 2025 Truist Championship from May 8–11 on its renowned Wissahickon Course, the club a creation of legendary golf architect A.W. Tillinghast.

Originally opened in 1922, Wissahickon is a masterclass in golf design, refreshed by restoration expert Keith Foster. Born in Philly and raised on soft pretzels and stickball, Foster returned to his roots to “recapture” Tillinghast’s vision—not just renovate, but revive the soul of the course. From removing trees to resurrecting long-lost bunkers, including the iconic “Great Hazard,” his work has made the course both historically faithful and tournament-ready.

This year’s event replaces the traditional Truist stop at Quail Hollow, offering golf fans a rare look at one of the country’s most exclusive clubs. Expect pros to be tested by the famously tricky greens and the daunting finishing stretch, rerouted for maximum drama.

For Foster, it was never just about turf—it was about reconnecting with a storied legacy and letting it shine once more. And for Montgomery County, it’s a chance to share one of its hidden gems with the world.
