19-Year-Old Nottingham Native Makes History as Youngest Graduate from Local University

Nottingham's Sarah Potter, pictured center at her high school graduation, completed a degree in social work in just two years at Neumann University while working full-time.

Nineteen-year-old Nottingham resident Sarah Potter is set to become the youngest graduate in the history of Neumann University in Delaware County, writes Caroline Goggin for 6abc.

She graduated from Oxford Area High School in 2023. Potter took college courses throughout her high school career with Oxford’s “Early College Academy” program, a partnership with Cecil College in Maryland that allows students to earn college credit while still in high school.

Earning 60 college credits as a high school student allowed her to complete her degree in social work from Neumann in just two years.

Potter has paid for her college education entirely on her own by working at Wawa and completing an internship at Delaware County Children & Youth Services, where she will work full-time after graduation.

In addition to her nonstop schedule, Potter shared that one of the most difficult challenges she’s faced is the loss of her mother in 2024, who was a strong advocate for Potter and her education.

Potter’s accomplishments and resilience will be celebrated on May 18, when she will make history as the youngest graduate from Neumann in the university’s history. She shared that her upcoming graduation was one of her main motivations to move forward and complete her education, stating, “Definitely envisioning me walking across the stage has given me all the confidence to keep going.”
