Earlier this week, Jefferson Health unveiled a multiyear capital spending plan, highlighting the initiatives to modernize its two Level 1 trauma centers, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The largest health system in the region said the projects at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Jefferson Einstein Philadelphia Hospital will be a multimillion-dollar investment, but did not specify the exact cost.
The capital spending plan also includes a new 30-bed medical-surgical unit at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, as well as integrating the Epic electronic health records within the entire health system.
“The investments were prioritized to address areas with the greatest need and to ensure improved convenience, accessibility, and care delivery,” said Dixieanne James, president of Jefferson Health’s central region.
The trauma centers at these two Philadelphia hospitals rank among the region’s busiest, treating approximately 3,000 patients annually at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and 2,300 at Einstein.
At Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Jefferson Health plans on redesigning treatment bays, expand the emergency department entrance, and enhance waiting room facilities.
Meanwhile, at Jefferson Einstein Philadelphia Hospital, the health system aims to expand its three trauma bays.
