Northeast Philly Native to Join NBC10 Meteorologist Team Starting Jan. 20

Robert Johnson will be become the newest member of NBC10 Philadelphia's First Alert Weather Team, starting Jan. 20.

Northeast Philadelphia native Robert Johnson will soon embark on a journey as the newest member of NBC10 Philadelphia’s First Alert Weather weekday coverage team starting on Monday, Jan. 20, writes Michael Tanenbaum for PhillyVoice.

Johnson previously spent the last five years as a weekend meteorologist at WTVD-TV in Raleigh, North Carolina. Prior to that, he interned in the weather departments of 6abc and FOX 29, respectively.

A 2019 graduate of Penn State, he received his first mentorship within the industry from Glenn “Hurricane” Schwartz, the longtime former NBC10 meteorologist, who retired from the station in 2022 after 42 years.

“15 years ago, I walked through the doors of this station to attend a weather education program led by former chief meteorologist Glenn “Hurricane” Schwartz, who became my first mentor in meteorology,” Johnson wrote in a LinkedIn post. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to bring the same passion to NBC10 a decade and a half later.”

In addition, Johnson highlighted that he is thrilled to forecast the weather in his hometown.

“As someone who grew up in the area, Robert has a unique understanding of our community and the weather patterns that impact the Greater Philadelphia region,” said Elizabeth Flores, vice president of news for NBC10 and Telemundo62.
