Celebrate the Legacies of The Black Panther Party and MLK At the African American Museum in Philadelphia

The African American Museum in Philadelphia will honor the legacies of the Black Panther Party and Martin Luther King Jr. with two special events on Jan. 19-20.

The African American Museum in Philadelphia is set to host two events celebrating the legacies of the Black Panther Party and Martin Luther King Jr., respectively.

On Sunday, Jan. 19, the African American Museum in Philadelphia will host a meaningful brunch event that celebrates the legacy of the Black Panthers’ Free Breakfast Program and its profound impact on the community.

The gathering will aim to honor the spirit of service, empowerment, and unity that the program embodies during its time.

Guests will be able to indulge in a delicious spread of brunch favorites, including golden hotcakes, fluffy scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, savory sausage, and fruit. While enjoying these delicious offerings, guests can also engage in inspiring conversations about social justice, community activism, and the importance of nourishing our neighborhoods.

Dr. Xavier Buck, executive director of the Dr. Huey P. Newton Foundation and founder of the Black Panther Party Museum in Oakland, California, will be a guest speaker.

The following day, while the nation celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Day, AAMP, in partnership with Citizens Bank for the 18th consecutive year, will offer free admission with a number of fun activities for the community.

This includes a drumming circle, coloring activities, and DJs playing music throughout the Museum’s galleries.

Guests can also enjoy Secure the Bag, a real-world budget simulation and interactive game designed to teach financial literacy in an engaging way.

There will also be a special visit from the Phillie Phanatic.

Both days will be used to allow individuals and families to come together to have fun, reflect on the past, celebrate our progress, and commit to creating a brighter future for all.
