Philly’s Lily Fischer of Cake Life Bake Shop in Fishtown Wins New TV Baking Competition

Lily Fischer, the co-owner of the Fishtown bakery, Cake Life, has won her third baking competition in the last 13 years.

Lily Fischer, co-owner of Cake Life Bake Shop, has won the first episode of the new Hulu baking competition series, Cookie, Cupcake, Cake, writes Jenn Ladd for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Fischer is no stranger to winning baking competitions, as this is her third competition win in the last 13 years.

She previously won episodes of Cupcake Wars and Winner Cake All.

This latest win however is her first win competing solo.

Despite making quite a name for herself in the field since leaving her former profession as a preschool teacher to attend pastry school at the Art Institute of Philadelphia, Fischer often continues to have her doubts.

“I still have impostor syndrome,” she said. “So [the Cookie, Cupcake, Cake win] was this cool experience to be like… ‘I do know what I’m doing and I have been doing this for 15 years.‘”

Fischer and her business partner Nima Etemadi opened Cake Life Bake Shop in Fishtown in 2016.

For this competition, Fischer and her co-contestants had to make luau-themed cookies, tropical-drink-flavored cupcakes, and a display cake.

She whipped up pineapple-, palm tree-, and Spam musubi-shaped iced cookies, lime-in-the-coconut cupcakes filled with lime curd and edged in toasted coconut, and a two-tiered chocolate cake with vanilla bean mascarpone, and a raspberry-syrup soak.
