Located atop the rolling hills of Valley Forge Mountain, the Wharton Esherick Museum is a true hidden gem that bursts with art, craft, and creativity, writes Victoria Rose for Main Line Tonight.
The museum was once the home and studio of Wharton Esherick, the famous artist who worked in several fields, including sculpture, woodworking, painting, poetry, and furniture design.
Since the building opened its doors as a museum in 1972, it has been showcasing how design, form, and function can come together to turn into beautiful works of art.
The Malvern museum, which has been designated as a National Historic Landmark for Architecture, houses over 3,000 pieces made by artists which many consider to be the father of the Studio Furniture Movement.
A new book titled The Crafted World of Wharton Esherick gives a peek inside the museum with photos and essays written by acclaimed scholars. The book, which was published on Oct. 1, coincides with the museum’s current exhibit at the Brandywine Museum of Art.
Carrying the same name as the book, the exhibit will run through Jan. 19, 2025.
