Bryce Harper Is Bringing a Little Bit of Wawa to Home Plate

Talent obviously has made Bryce Harper of the Philadelphia Phillies a highly successful professional athlete.

Wawa may have made him a legend, writes Josh Wilson for Sports Illustrated.

Harper, already a favorite with Philly sports fans, had some custom Wawa gear on display Saturday in a game against the Cleveland Guardians, promoting his love of the Delaware County convenience store chain.

Both his headband and his cleats were Wawa-themed.

The Bryce Harper Wawa gear was made by Under Armour in collaboration with Wawa and Bryce Harper.

Under Amour debuted Harper’s Wawa-themed merchandise back in June and said it was inspired by Harper’s pregame ritual of visiting a Wawa for a hoagie before heading to the field on gamedays.

The cleats carried a slightly altered Wawa slogan, changed from “Gotthava Wawa” to “GottahaveaHarper.”

Those cleats may have kept Harper in good standing with his supporters after the Phils lost that game 8-0.

Harper is known to add fun and personal details to his baseball gear.  Days before his Wawa-themed debut, the handle of Harper’s bat featured the meme gorilla Harambe that was turned into a trading card by a fan.
