Eagles Draft Jeremiah Trotter Jr. 26 Years After Drafting Father, Team Executives Tear Up During Call

Jeremiah Trotter Jr. and Jeremiah Trotter Sr. have now both been drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles, 26 years apart.

The Philadelphia Eagles witnessed a full circle moment during the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft when the franchise drafted Clemson University linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr., writes Tim Capurso for Sports Illustrated.

The pick comes 26 years after the Eagles drafted his father, linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Sr. in the third round of the 1998 NFL Draft.

The moment was an emotional one for the Eagles franchise’s front office, namely owner Jeffrey Lurie, general manager Howie Roseman, and coach Nick Sirianni.

During his call, Roseman told Jeremiah Trotter Jr. that him becoming a member of the Eagles was “just like it’s meant to be.”

Lurie, who bought the Eagles in 1994, was there when Trotter Sr. was drafted by the franchise in 1998.

During his call, Lurie told the younger Trotter that he “loved his mother,” who passed away after a battle with cancer last year, and “can’t wait to see you.”

Trotter Sr. spent eight total seasons with the team over three separate stints. In those years, he made four Pro Bowl appearances, and helped the Eagles advance to Super Bowl XXXIX in 2005.

Now drafting his son, the Eagles are hopeful Trotter Jr. can make a similar impact.
