WSJ: How North Philly Native Kevin Hart Has Found Success in Comedy and Entrepreneurship

Kevin Hart will be honored as the newest recipient of the Mark Twain Prize in March 2024. But his comedy is being rivaled by a long-list of business ventures.

Kevin Hart has a long list of business ventures, from movies and TV shows of his flagship entertainment company, Hartbeat, to his venture-capital firm, tequila brand, restaurant chain, and much more.

Hart has set a new precedent for his evolution from comedy to entrepreneurism and dealmaking, writes John Jurgensen for The Wall Street Journal

This is all part of Hart’s self-declared quest to create an empire and become a billionaire.

His celebrity, however, started with the most basic things in show business: a microphone and a stage.

As his business endeavors boom, his comedy continues to gain recognition.

On March 24, Hart will accept the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, one of the highest honors in the comedic industry.

“I do know what I’ve done for the craft of comedy. By that I mean I’ve changed the business of stand-up comedy,” Hart said.

His success outside of the comedic world can be credited to leveraging his popularity in that realm and using it to enter into other industries, creating a model for other stand-up comedians to emulate.

“Whether you’re a fan or not, you have to respect what I’ve done. … Because you don’t do it by accident—and you don’t stay here by accident,” said Kevin Hart.
