Philly Dance Instructor Promotes the Positive Psychological Effects of Dancing

Brice Johnson is a decorated dancer, and promotes the positive effect it can have.

When his dreams of becoming a soccer star were derailed due to an injury in high school, Brice Johnson managed to find his true calling in hip-hop dancing, writes Courtenay Harris Bond for PhillyVoice

Johnson started to pick up street forms of dance and eventually joined friends in a hip-hop dance crew.

Throughout his career, Johnson has performed on the TV show, “So You Think You Can Dance,” performed with Madonna, choreographed and taught around the globe.

In doing so, he has started to see dance as far more than just a road to stardom.

For him, it’s also been a way to supersede obstacles and live a more authentic life.

As a result, Johnson now helps others achieve more clarity about themselves and their life purposes through dance.

Researchers are seeing the vast positive effects of dance, as well.

A recent study published in Sports Medicine found that structured dance programs give significant benefits to individuals’ psychological and cognitive health.

Johnson also uses social media and YouTube videos to connect with others through dance.

“Instead of teaching you how to dance, I teach you how to use dance as a tool to express yourself and to find your purpose,” he said.
