A Man's Image will be closing its doors in March after 60 years in business.

For 60 years, A Man’s Image on Passyunk Avenue has been a beloved staple for shoppers.

However, due to the changing dynamics of retail, the menswear store will be closing its doors at the end of March, writes Zoe Greenberg for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

In years past, A Man’s Image owners would see the store packed regularly. But in more recent years leading up to and since the pandemic, that has no longer been the case.

“It’s a dying trade,” said Mario Maldonado, who has worked at the shop for 30 years.

While online retail has become increasingly more prominent, A Man’s Image never managed to get an online business off the ground.

As the shop remains open through March, a fire sale is underway as devoted customers visit to pay their respects, say goodbye, and stock up on some clothing items.

A Men’s Image was founded in the 1960s by Abe Mandel, who semi-retired in 2016 and sold it to Maldonado and co-owners Bob Taylor and Louis Zulli.

When the shop closes, Taylor will work full-time at a vintage toy company he currently runs on the side; Maldonado will do the same with a side tax business; while Zulli’s next venture is up in the air.
