The list of North America’s 50 best restaurants has been unveiled, and Philadelphia is home to three eateries that have made the list, according to the publication.
At No. 7 on the list is Kalaya. Owned by chef-proprietor Chutatip ‘Nok’ Suntaranon, Kalaya is known for its imaginative Thai dishes with charismatic elements.
The menu includes gems like bird-shaped dumplings, sweet and caramelised cod, and tamarind-glazed pork chops, among much more.
Friday Saturday Sunday ranks No. 16 on the list. While the restaurant has been in Philadelphia since 1973, it’s respect evolved to reverence after being taken over by husband and wife duo, Chad and Hanna Williams.
Previously just a weekend-only restaurant, it’s now open on Wednesday and Thursday, as well.
There, you’ll find an eight-course tasting menu with classic French dishes with influences from the African diaspora. One dish worth trying is the seared white fish with frothy vin jaune sauce.
Rounding out the list of Philadelphia representatives is Royal Sushi and Izakaya at No. 32. There, owner Chef Jesse Ito strives to give customers the full omasake experience.
Some dishes include the dry-aged tuna, lush blackthroat sea perch, firefly squid, and much more.
