This Labrador Retriever is Helping the Philadelphia Police Department’s SVU Team Solve Crimes

Meet Cache, the new four-legged member of the Philadelphia Police Department's SVU team.

The Philadelphia Police Department recently added a new four-legged worker to its SVU special investigations unit, writes Joe Holden for CBS News Philadelphia.

Cache is a 2-year-old Labrador retriever with a nose for finding electronics.

“Cache is able to detect hidden electronic devices,” said Special Victims Unit detective Stephanie Rosenbaum said. “Anything that stores media, such as images, videos. He can also locate anything that connects to the internet via Bluetooth or wireless.”

The devices he found were all out of sight for the puppy.

However, his talent is sniffing out the unique scents that electronics emit.

Cache was donated to the Philadelphia Police Department by the U.S. Secret Service.

Rosenbaum went with Cache to the national academy for rigorous training, where she learned how to train the pup before the Department took control.

She noted that Cache is dual-trained.

“Which is really great for child victims that have these awful things happen to them,” Rosenbaum added. “He’s a support to them. He’s also a support to our detectives.”

Cache tends to associate finding something as a game that ends up with a reward.
