Where to Get Some of the Best Sandwiches in Philadelphia

Pennsylvania isn't short on great sandwich shops with high quality sandwiches, and many of them are located in Philadelphia.

If you’re a resident or tourist of Pennsylvania, you’re in the land of some of the most legendary sandwich shops in the country, and many are located in Philadelphia, writes Nathaniel Rivers for Unearth the Voyage.

Dating back to 1930, John’s Roast Pork in South Philadelphia has perfected the roast reef sandwich — a recipe of slow-cooked and seasoned pork in a crusty roll. However, cheesesteaks at this spot are also top-tier.

Speaking of cheesesteaks, those served at Angelo’s Pizzeria are often selected as among the best. However, its commitment to making its menu items from scratch and using premium ingredients can be tasted in all of its sandwiches.

There’s also the ever-so-popular for tourists, Geno’s Steaks, which has achieved global name recognition.

While not as well-known outside of Philadelphia, Sonny’s Famous Steaks in Old City has remained consistent in its cheesesteak-making efforts, using thinly sliced beef, melted cheese on a soft, sturdy roll.

There’s also Dalessandro’s, whose cheesesteaks with finely chopped beef, cheese, and onions have satisfied customers for decades.

If you happen to be in Reading Terminal Market, be sure to visit DiNic’s. Their roast pork sandwiches were touted as the best in the country by Travel Channel’s Man v. Food host Adam Richman.
