The Union League of Philadelphia to Acquire Popular Restaurant, Bar in Avalon

The Union League of Philadelphia is expanding its presence in the Jersey Shore by acquiring the Whitebrier, a popular bar and restaurant in Avalon, writes Ryan Mulligan for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

After its purchase, the historic social club is planning to turn the 200-seat restaurant and bar into a private spots for its many members in the summer.

“With more than 2,500 members owning residences within 30 minutes of Avalon, expanding our presence in this thriving community is an investment in the future of the League,” Union League President Robert Cavalier wrote in his letter.

The Union League’s purchase comes more than two years after the Whitebrier went up for sale. In addition to the restaurant itself, the Union League is also purchasing the adjacent parking lots located to the north and west.

The club hopes to have its new property opened for the summer.

With the Jersey Shore playing a big part in its members’ lives, the Union League felt that increasing its presence there made a lot of sense. Furthermore, despite being beyond capacity, the Union League doesn’t like saying no, so this new acquisition presents new opportunities.

For exclusive details on the Union League’s vision for the Whitebrier and how this expansion fits into its broader growth strategy, read the full story on Philadelphia Business Journal.
