Uncle Bobbie’s Coffee & Books Expanding to Larger Germantown Space This Fall

Uncle Bobbie’s Coffee & Books is readying to move into a new 3,000-square-foot space a few blocks west from its current location of 8 years later this year.

Uncle Bobbie’s Coffee & Books, owned and founded by Philadelphia native Marc Lamont Hill, is preparing to move into a new space in the fall, writes Elizabeth Wellington for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The new, larger space is just a few blocks west of its current location and will allow the Germantown bookstore to expand its book selections and have bigger events.

“We have kind of known for years we needed to move the space since we outgrew it pretty quickly. But with COVID, we were trying to survive, not think about growth and development. Now it’s time,” said Justin Moore, the bookstore and coffee shop’s general manager.

The 3,000-square-foot new space is located at the intersection of Germantown Avenue and Washington Lane on the ground floor of a 47-unit apartment building with a rooftop terrace.

Upon its move, Uncle Bobbie’s will be neighbored by the historic Johnson House, which was once used as an Underground Railroad Station.

Moore added that the energy surrounding the new space will help attract more foot traffic and tourists.

Since opening in 2017, Uncle Bobbie’s has hosted many of the nation’s most notable authors. The larger space will allow for more opportunity to “further and deepen our ties in Germantown as a community hub,” Moore added.
