Uber Launches New Campaign Opposing Proposed Philadelphia Rideshare Tax

Uber is not in favor of the Parker administration's proposal to add a $1 rideshare tax, and has launched a six-figure campaign against it.

Uber has launched a new campaign a month after Mayor Cherelle Parker’s most recent budget address, where she proposed a rideshare tax, writes Isaac Avilucea for AXIOS Philadelphia.

The six-figure campaign urges city lawmakers to oppose the proposed tax, arguing that it would be detrimental to the city’s working class.

According to the campaign ads, the proposal would serve as a “double tax” that would hurt families and seniors the most.

During her third budget address as mayor, Parker proposed a $1 per ride fee that would go toward education, ultimately helping raise $48 million annually for the Philadelphia School District.

To this end, Uber said that more than 1 million trips that were booked in Philadelphia in 2025 were school-related.

Furthermore, the Parker administration has said that Uber has the option to absorb the tax as opposed to passing it onto riders.
