Food Mappers Chart Pennsylvania’s Culinary Landscape

Several food mappers across the state have charted PA’s culinary landscape, relying on their own palates and passion for guidance.

In a world full of influencer hype and fake reviews, several food mappers have charted Pennsylvania’s culinary landscape, relying on their own palates and passion, writes Asha Prihar for WPSU.

Djour, a Philadelphia resident and lifelong foodie who uses a pseudonym to maintain privacy and avoid any special treatment by restaurants, set out around three years ago to create a unique online voice in the city’s food scene. He launched a website mapping food spots across Philadelphia that he considers worth visiting.

“I think the best thing about Philly’s food scene is it’s got a low barrier of entry, but it’s got a high standard,” he said.

He adds eateries he considers to be genuinely good and omits those he is not impressed with.

Meanwhile, artist and frankfurter enthusiast Hawk Krall has set his sights on Pennsylvania’s hot dog scene. His comprehensive project, “The Great Pennsylvania Hot Dog Map,” currently highlights over 100 locations, ranging from lunch counters to commercial plants, with a guide to the state’s unique regional styles.

“Pennsylvania has a lot of cool hot dog stuff to offer,” said Krall. “There’s a lot of places, and a lot of places that you don’t really see being covered in the food media or maybe outside their local area.”
