Willistown’s M. Night Shyamalan Visits Philadelphia Pizzeria for a Baby Shower

Famed filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan recently surprised a Philly pizzeria owner when he stopped by the shop for a friend’s baby shower.

Beloved Philly-area filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan recently surprised a local pizzeria owner when he stopped by the shop for a baby shower, writes Hira Qureshi for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The famed director of classic Philadelphia-set films like The Sixth Sense and The Happening, who is also a resident of Willistown Township, visited Philadelphia pizza shop CHAR on Sunday, April 19. He was stopping by the shower of Thu Pham and Raymond John, owners of the Vietnamese coffee shop Càphê Roasters.

Shyamalan knows the couple via the M. Night Shyamalan Foundation, through which Shyamalan supports John’s nonprofit 12 Plus.

When booking the event, Pham mentioned to CHAR owner Viraj Thomas that Shyamalan might stop by the shower. The chef shared his excitement that Shyamalan ended up staying for several hours with his wife Bhavna, chatting with the staff and guests.

Partygoers enjoyed pepperoni and caramelized onion pizzas, along with salads and sticky toffee pudding, a favorite dish of Pham’s.

While Shyamalan’s attendance delighted the crowd, the happy couple was still the center of attention. About the filmmaker’s appearance, Thomas said, “We were stoked to celebrate Thu and Raymond, and their baby that’s soon to be. But also it’s cool when someone famous, who’s done stuff almost exclusively in the city, comes in.”
