Càphê Roasters, Philadelphia’s first Vietnamese coffee roastery, recently served filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan and his wife, Bhavna Vaswani, during a surprise visit.
It would be an understatement to say that the couple enjoyed their hot Vietnamese latte and cà phê sữa, writes Hira Qureshi for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
“This was a 10,” Shyamalan said about Càphê Roasters. “The food, the atmosphere, the drinks — amazing.”
Shyamalan has been a supporter of Càphê Roasters from its start in 2021.
He and the M. Night Shyamalan Foundation support 12 Plus, an education nonprofit co-founded by Càphê Roasters Raymond John. The nonprofit helps high schoolers access college and career opportunities.
This, however, was Shyamalan and his wife’s first visit to the Kensington roastery.
Co-founder Thu Pham said he “very honored that he tried to fit [us] into the schedule and finally visit.”
Càphê Roasters has built up a strong reputation over these four years.
It’s a strong social hub for diverse visitors; hires a range of people from 12 Plus, the Kensington neighborhood, and local public schools; and also earned a 2025 James Beard semifinalist nomination.
Expansion is also in the works.
Now, Shyamalan’s visit is yet another nod in its favor.
