Philadelphia Region Braces for Busy Filming Year in 2026

The Philadelphia region’s film industry is gearing up for its busiest year yet, driven by $100 million in state tax credits and growing international interest, writes Mike D’Onofrio for AXIOS Philadelphia.

Big-ticket sporting events and America’s 250th birthday programming later this year are drawing attention to the region and are expected to boost film production in the coming months, said Erin Wagner, co-executive director of the Greater Philadelphia Film Office.

“The world has its eyes on Philadelphia this year,” she said. “You’re going to see a lot of small crews … around Philadelphia.”

In the last year, the region saw 391 productions, including 18 feature films, with this year expected to break that record. Production spending totaled $109 million, resulting in an economic impact of $229 million.

Television shows made up the majority of filming, with Netflix’s Tires and Amazon Prime’s Reacher among the projects. Wagner noted that this follows post-pandemic trends, with movie theater attendance down and more viewers streaming and binge-watching TV shows at home.

The resurgence in filming is being driven by Pennsylvania tax credits, which have now reached $100 million and still continue to attract productions to the state.
