The Simpsons aired its 800th episode on Sunday, February 15, and the milestone episode featured its fair share of people and places that are synonymous with Philadelphia, writes Victor Fiorillo for Philadelphia Magazine.
The episode was written and produced by Oxford Circle native Christine Nangle. While she currently lives in Los Angeles, she said: “I’m 100 percent still a Philadelphian. I wear it with pride on my sleeve.”
While in Philadelphia, Homer and Marge Simpson go on an adventure throughout the city, where they come across many of the places, things, and people who make the city what it is.
Among the Philly natives in the episode included characters voiced by Abbott Elementary star and creator Quinta Brunson, award-winning actor Kevin Bacon, and music artist Questlove.
Some of the city’s well-known landmarks and locations were also featured, including Boathouse Row, Wawa, the Mütter Museum, and Betsy Ross House.
With the episode’s setting in Philadelphia, cheesesteaks were, of course, involved. To this end, Geno’s Steaks, Pat’s King of Steaks, and Dalessandro’s Steaks and Hoagies were all featured. Other food-related inclusions were Down North Pizza, TastyKake, hoagies, and water ice.
The Rocky statue, Mummers Parade, Phillie Phanatic, and Gritty also made cameos in the episode.
