New Logo, website, and rebrand by David Nordlund, The DNDesign Group, Los Angeles
Great Careers Logo

After months of planning, collaboration, and strategic discussion, the Great Careers Network announces our new logo and redesigned website: GreatCareers.org.

This milestone is more than a new look. It demonstrates our dedication to clearly defining our mission, audience, and how we support career growth in our community.

Why a Brand Refresh and Why Now?

As a volunteer-run nonprofit hosting 18-25 monthly career education events, we saw the need for an updated visual identity to better show:

  • Our impact and longevity
  • Our evolving audience
  • Our vision for career readiness for teens preparing for the workforce

The organization began as a Meetup community in April 2010. Leadership transitioned in August 2015. By April 2017, we had filed as a 501(c)3 nonprofit (as Philadelphia Area Great Careers Group). We have grown into a trusted resource for:

  • Job seekers
  • Entrepreneurs
  • Employed professionals
  • Career changers (pivots or reinventions)
  • Veterans
  • Students (who are not taught or don’t tap into career services on how to market themselves for a job in school)

With new initiatives emerging, including our Career Readiness Camp for Teens, it was the right time to ensure our brand clearly communicated both our mission and momentum.

The Strategic Process Behind the New Brand

David Nordlund, Founder and Chief Creative Officer of The DN Design Group, directed our overall brand strategy, guiding the Board through structured discovery, competitive analysis, narrative development, and identity refinement to ensure clarity, cohesion, and market differentiation.

The DN Design Group is a strategic brand consultancy known for crafting positioning frameworks and identity systems for organizations ranging from emerging ventures to established enterprises. If you review the About section on David’s profile, you will note his expertise with many familiar brands and industries.

Project coordination and strategic integration were led by Marketing & AI Strategist Christie Calahan, who ensured that timelines, measurable outcomes, and technical integrations remained aligned throughout the engagement. Working closely with The DN Design Group, she helped translate strategic direction into executable systems, supporting cross-functional collaboration and data-informed decision-making at every stage.

We explored foundational branding concepts, including:

What Is Brand Strategy?

Understanding brand strategy as a long-term system that shapes perception, positioning, and trust, and not just visual design.

Brand Strategy vs. Marketing Tactics

We clarified that strategy shapes our identity and purpose, while marketing is how we share that with others.

Logo Design

The Board of Directors reviewed the designs and color palettes David created. Here is the story behind the one we chose, described as follows:

“The Great Careers Network logo is built with intention and balance. The relationship between the icon and the word-mark is designed for clarity, harmony, and versatility across all applications.

This bold geometric icon forms a five-pointed star-like shape using abstract human figures arranged in a circle. Each figure appears to be reaching outward while remaining connected at the center, symbolizing collective strength, support, and aspiration. The pointed edges add a sense of upward momentum and ambition, which the circular placement suggests unity and shared purpose. It visually captures the essence of a network designed to help individuals shine – together.”

David is brilliant with his design ingenuity, taking a 360-degree approach, and we are grateful for a beautiful and professional website.

Leadership That Made It Happen

Our projects, like everything at Great Careers Network, run on the dedication of our volunteers, with a special thanks to our WordPress enthusiasts and techie volunteers.

Creative Direction

David guided the strategic process and captured the essence of our approach:

“An effective brand strategy is a cohesive system of elements that align around a clear position. Brand Strategy is the definition of a brand’s approach to who they target, how they differentiate, and how they influence perceptions and decisions. Get clear on your audience. Understand what matters to them. Define how you deliver in a way no one else does—and we can build everything around that.” – David N.

David worked hand in hand with the backend developer throughout the entire build process, overseeing everything behind the scenes that powers the platform, from database architecture and system integrations to hosting infrastructure and security implementation. Their coordination ensured the launch reflected not only strong design but also a technically sound and scalable digital framework. He welcomes conversations with potential clients.

Project Management and AI Innovation

Christie Calahan played a central role in shaping Greater Careers Network’s strategic direction and market positioning. Beyond applying her certification in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning from MIT, she translated insight and data into actionable strategy—helping define how GCN differentiates itself within a competitive workforce landscape.

She partnered with The DN Design Group throughout the initiative, ensuring timelines, measurable outcomes, and system integrations remained aligned and on track. Her leadership strengthened collaboration across teams, streamlined workflows, and embedded data-informed decision-making into the foundation of the organization’s growth.

Christie is currently pursuing a second certification in Agentic AI, continuing to expand her expertise to support evolving career ecosystems and technology-forward strategy.

A Volunteer-Powered Mission

Great Careers Network operates through volunteer leadership and community support.

Our funding comes from:

Despite limited resources, our volunteers consistently deliver high-quality programming, social media outreach, and event coordination, ensuring we continue to serve thousands of professionals each year. Since our meetup’s founding in April 2010, my acquisition in August 2015, 501(c)3 status in April 2017, and three other organizations merging into our organization since 2020, we have made an impact:

  • 6.5K events
  • 8.5K members of meetup (not including the website)
  • 48K RSVPs

Expanding Our Impact: Career Readiness for Teens

We are best known for adult career education, but we are now expanding our reach. Our Career Readiness Camp for Teens runs from May through August, online and in-person in Paoli.

This initiative offers nine sessions designed to help students build:

  • Resumes
  • LinkedIn profiles
  • Career Marketing Skills and more

Today’s AI-driven hiring demands more than credentials; it requires you to effectively showcase your value. One has to know how to market oneself and navigate Applicant Tracking Systems and AI, so that’s why career coaches exist. They specialize in fast-forwarding the process. Career education provides learning opportunities that may not be taught in schools or taken advantage of by students.

Our new logo and website mark a new chapter rooted in clarity, community, and growth.
