As director of pipeline and insights for Comcast NBCUniversal LIFT Labs, Tito Obaisi has refined a disciplined and intuitive method to be able to spot the AI startups that are redefining the tech industry, writes Grace Shallow for Technical.ly.
Founded in 2018, LIFT Labs has facilitated long-term partnerships between startup founders and Comcast leaders. Recently, the program has focused on identifying enterprise-ready AI startups such as Windsurf, LangChain, WRITER, and Replit.
In his search for the next big thing, Obaisi reads academic papers, analyzes product release notes, and follows engineers and researchers who are shaping the future of AI through their work. He also uses AI to curate his feeds, engages with platforms that remember his preferences, and trains search engines to surface the most relevant news.
People building or working on AI are perhaps his most impactful source, which he taps by following startups and technologists on social media.
“AI is unique because it supports the democratization of intelligence,” said Obasi. “The number of permutations of what could be innovated on by the average person, by technical and non-technical people, is almost endless.”
