For more than a quarter century, Joan Shepp has had a tradition of standing out among a number of other clothing retailers.
That’s why The New York Times named the family-owned retail store in Rittenhouse Square among the 50 clothing stores in America, writes Molly McVety for PhillyVoice.
The publication praised Joan Shepp for staying on the “cutting edge” of fashion trends, maintaining its affordability and extensive brand clothing selections, as well as its range and prices.
All in all, remaining among the store has remained at the forefront of Philadelphia’s fashion industry throughout its 54-year history.
Joan Shepp is known for carrying dozens of name-brand clothing, shoes, and accessories. In 2019, the store added home decor to its selection of options.
Being able to keep up with the ever-changing industry is no easy feat. However, the store’s owner Ellen Shepp credits the camaraderie with her colleagues and customers for helping navigate the latest online trends and how to see it translated to its stores.
“The incredible secret sauce [of Joan Shepp] is the staff,” she said. “… We hunt and gather for the most interesting.”
She added that her mother and founder is “the best mentor in the world.”
