Philadelphia is about to become the host of the fifth Lilly Gateway Labs, a biotech incubator for early-stage companies backed by Eli Lilly & Co., writes Harold Brubaker for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The pharmaceutical giant already operates incubators in the San Francisco Bay Area, Boston, and San Diego, where companies have collectively raised more than $3 billion from investors since the program’s launch in 2019.
Located on the first two floors of 2300 Market Street in Center City, the Philadelphia Lilly Gateway Labs will span 44,000 square feet and host six to eight companies, with the first startups expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2026, according to Julie Gilmore, global head of Lilly Gateway Labs.
“What we like is to go after innovative science,” said Gilmore. “Who are the companies trying to solve really hard problems? And we do know that Philadelphia has had a ton of success in gene therapy and CAR-T and I hope we can find some great companies in that space, but we’re going to be open to other types of innovative science as well.”
