With Valley Forge Military Academy closing at the end of the academic year, questions have arisen over its 70-acre campus, which could represent a real estate opportunity in one of the region’s most coveted locations, writes Ryan Mulligan for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The campus straddles Tredyffrin Township in Chester County and Radnor Township in Delaware County. These are home to two of the top school districts in the state, where home prices are usually over $1 million.
Already flanked by two residential developments, the campus has several more planned around its edges. It also borders a golf club, Villanova University, and Eastern University.
“Developers are always looking for opportunities anywhere on the Main Line,” said Tredyffrin Township Manager William Martin. “Certainly if these come on the market, from large to small, developers are definitely going to be looking to take a shot at it. I think there will be a lot of interest in potentially redeveloping those sites should they come available.”
In September, Valley Forge Military Academy announced it will permanently close in May 2026, after 98 years of operation.
