Temple Women and Families Hospital, a brand-new hospital built just for mothers and babies, is set to open in North Philadelphia next month, writes Racquel Williams for KYW Newsradio.
The facility’s main goal is to reduce both maternal and infant mortality rates.
“We need to drive those mortality rates down, particularly in communities with a vulnerable population, with challenges in social determinants of health, in accessing care, and our community deserves to be able to have high-quality outcomes,” said Executive Director Sharon Kurfuerst.
The hospital, which is set to open on Wednesday, September 3, features 13 specialized birthing rooms and 32 private postpartum suites. It offers high-risk pregnancy management and a Level III NICU for babies needing specialized care, with wrap-around services available for the entire family.
Kurfuerst noted that this is exactly what the community has been asking for.
“Women coming in for prenatal care are already asking, ‘Can I deliver at the new facility?’” she said. “The answer is, if it’s September 3 or after, absolutely, and we can’t wait to serve the women and families of the North Philadelphia community.”
