Meet the Brother-Sister Duo Introducing Smash Burgers to South Philadelphia

A brother and sister are the co-owners of Smash'd Burgers and Shakes in South Philadelphia.

A brother and sister duo have introduced something new and delicious to South Philadelphia with Smash’d Burgers & Shakes, reports Bob Kelly for FOX 29 Philadelphia.

The siblings John and Nikki Palmer decided to shake things up in the neighborhood — known especially for its cheesesteaks —with smash burgers.

“It’s definitely the trending thing,” said the brother. “The smashed burger is basically just like the regular burger,” except the meatballs are pressed flat to create a really thin patty.

“They cook quicker, and you know, because they’re thinner, they got a better crust, they taste better,” said John.

He added that many people think they are getting less meat because their burgers are so thin, but customers actually get a double portion for every standard burger.

The burgers come in many varieties, including The Smash Melt, Smoke Show Burger, Cowboy Burger, and Bacon Pretzel Smash.

The eatery also serves Cheesesteak Eggrolls, Buffalo Wings, Chicken Tenders, and Smash’d Fries, among many other tasty offerings.

For dessert, there are many milkshake flavors to choose from, including a Strawberry Cheesesteak Milkshake, a Cannoli Shake, an Orange Creamsicle Milkshake, and a Peanut Butter and Jelly Shake.

Watch the entire segment highlighting South Philly’s smash burger haven at FOX 29 Philadelphia.
