A 9,000-square-foot food distribution warehouse was officially dedicated and opened Thursday in Holmes, reports the Daily Times.
Local officials and community leaders, as well as representatives from the Share Food Program, were on hand for a ribbon-cutting.
The new warehouse at 101 Amosland Road will be a central hub for food storage and distribution in Delaware County.
Share Food has been managing the charitable food system in Delaware County under a five-year contract approved by the Delaware County Council.
It has distributed more than 3.6 million pounds of food to Delaware County residents since 2022 and is the area’s leading agency for state and federal food distribution.
With the new warehouse, Share Food can better expand its network of partner pantries and serve the growing number of families in need, according to a Share Food Program release.
Aqua Pennsylvania, an Essential Utilities company, was the project’s lead sponsor, donating $450,000 from the company’s Essential Foundation.
“Thursday’s opening is an example of what we can accomplish when local government, nonprofits, and the private sector come together,” said Delaware County Council Chair Dr. Monica Taylor.
