Jefferson Health, in partnership with the School District of Philadelphia and Esperanza College, are helping fill many job openings through its free training program, write Stephanie Stahl and Brad Nau for CBS News Philadelphia.
The Jefferson Workforce Development Program provides students with both job training and subsequent job opportunities at Jefferson Health.
“The mission of this program is to provide talent streams for entry-level workforce in the technical space, whether it’s a patient care tech, medical assistant, surgical tech,” said Theresa Fortner, who oversees the workforce program.
To date, 38 students have completed the program.
One of the aforementioned students is Aleycha Peralta, who called the life-changing program “the opportunity of a lifetime.”
Each student gets 1,000 hours of classroom instruction along with hands-on training.
Batoul Ayyash, another student, credits the program for her decision to ultimately become a nurse.
Fortner promoted the program as helping stabilize the students economically and supporting their families while also benefitting the community.
Many of the students now work within the Jefferson system.
