A new Sheetz could soon rise along Ridge Pike in Limerick Township, directly across from the existing Wawa, writes Evan Brandt for the Pottstown Mercury.
At last Tuesday night’s meeting, township supervisors unanimously agreed to have their solicitor draft a resolution to approve the project’s final site plan. A formal vote is set for June 3, and with outstanding issues resolved, approval seems likely.
The 6,139-square-foot Sheetz will be built at 454 W. Ridge Pike, on vacant land next to the Arcadia at Limerick Pointe apartments. The site will include six gas pumps with 12 fueling spots, 50 parking spaces (four oversized for landscaping trucks), and access from both Ridge and Swamp Pike.
Though the site is zoned for a convenience store, gasoline sales required conditional use approval. That came April 1, with only Supervisor Michael McCloskey dissenting.
Limerick’s Sheetz will also feature a drive-through, part of a growing trend among the chain’s 770 stores. Traffic studies from a Harrisburg location show the drive-through handles significantly fewer cars per hour than a typical fast-food spot, easing concerns about congestion.
