During the second annual Philly Opener — an event marking the official start of Philadelphia’s tourism season — Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman was awarded with the Most Valuable Philadelphian Award.
The award is given out to someone who exemplifies what it means to be a Philadelphian and helps raise the city’s profile.
“And I truly believe there is nobody who better embodies the great determination and unique talent of our city than Howie Roseman,” said Dan Hilferty, president and CEO of Comcast Spectacor. “In a city like Philadelphia, our sports teams bear the weight of our hopes and our dreams on their shoulders, and often, there is no person held more accountable for their successes and failures than the general manager.”
Hilferty went on to praise Roseman’s dedication, work ethic, and unique mind that has helped catapult the Eagles to two Super Bowl championships in the last seven years.
For Roseman, however, receiving the Most Valuable Philadelphian honor allows him to reflect on all his experiences that led him to where he is today.
“I wouldn’t be here without the support of this city,” he said.
Whether it was Jeffrey Lurie taking a chance on him back in 2000, or the criticism he faced for drafting Brandon Graham in the 2010 NFL Draft, the city’s unique spirit shined through every time.
“Everything about this city is driving everyone to be the best that you can possibly can. There’s no other city in which you’re challenged as a leader to continue to grow,” Roseman added.
Those are the qualities that motivate him everyday and makes him proud to call Philadelphia his home.
