Villanova resident Howie Roseman vowed not to repeat the mistakes from Philadelphia Eagles’ first Super Bowl win, and delivered on his promise, writes Joseph Santoliquito for MSN.
While everybody celebrated winning Super Bowl LII, it was easy to forget that the team’s foundation was crumbling amid its inability to draft and develop in-house talent since the departure of Andy Reid.
In 2017, some of the biggest contributions were from outside. Roseman populated the team with quick-fix mercenaries, including Chris Long and Patrick Robinson.
This time, the general manager did things right. He has developed a sustainable model. The roster he built will be a Super Bowl contender, despite some important losses of major contributors to the team’s Super Bowl LIX success.
Isaiah Rodgers, Darius Slay, and in safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson will be replaced by Moro Ojomo, Kelee Ringo, Jalyx Hunt, Sydney Brown, and Will Shipley. Judging their work so far, they are more than capable of handling the additional workload. And all of them were drafted by Roseman and the Eagles.
“What Howie has done, and done it brilliantly, is build through the draft,” said Barrett Brooks, of NBC Philadelphia’s Eagles Postgame Live show.
